The end of an era

Tuesday, May 31st, 2005

So it’s official: last night was my last night on night-shift. And everybody was really sweet saying they’ll miss me. Even the ones I didn’t think would say anything.

It feels so unreal in a way… Thinking that I’ll have a normal schedule again.

Though I’m terribly nervous about what is to come. But it is also exciting. Especially to know that I have women fighting over me :-) A boyhood dream come true! *lol*

Anyways… It all doesn’t change that today is sleepy day, the day that I switch back from living at night to living under the light of the sun once again. Oh, I so wont miss these!!! But even though it traditionnaly the lowest day of the week in terms of moods, productiveness, etc… with my sweetie’s help, I got quite a lot done: I motivated her to fix the technical issues she was having with the gallery and the ones with the messageboard all by herself. And I finally figured out how to enable/disable PHP Safe_Mode on a virtual server and we got to help someone get rid of their gallery and email problems.

And now both kids are asleep, and it’s peaceful :-)

And I just got a note that someone quit today from my old shift. Which means they’ll lose 2 people (besides me) and maybe 2 more within a month…

So it is true? I leave and the world falls appart? Oh, look at that, my ankles are swelling!!!

Changes

Saturday, May 28th, 2005

So, tonight marks the start of my last night-shift work-week. It seems so unreal and almost a little sad. I guess after 2.5 years, it feels like a job change. Well, in essence it is: different schedule, different people to work with, different building, even different pay.

So yes, we’re all feeling a little melancholic about the change.

But sometimes any change is good :-)

I sure am a little nervous about it as the whole comfort zone thing definately grew on me. We shall see how it goes. We shall see if Jamie sends Raoul to the other end, we shall see how Shelbron will take coming back as an operator, we shall see how Linda and Roberta do together…

It’s good to move on :-)

…and the Friday Five (while we’re at it)

1. What was your favorite breakfast cereal when you were a kid?
Frosties

2. What is the best toy/prize you ever got in a box of cereal or because of sending in UPC’s?
I never did clip UPC codes. And I don’t remember any company doing it growing up…

3. How do you take your eggs (scrambled, over easy, egg beaters)?
Over easy. And it groces Roo out every time :-)

4. What is your favorite breakfast meat (bacon, ham, sausage)?
Hmm… this restaurant in Keswick (Cumbria, England) served this platter of breakfast meat. I don’t remember what it was called but it included these small sausages that were simply heavenly!

5. What is your favorite spot (local or chain restaurant) for breakfast and where is it located?
I don’t have one. We really don’t go out for breakfast at all.

Friday Monday Madness

The following all begin with ‘In your lifetime, have you….’
1. …ridden on a rollercoaster?
Duh. Though whenever I do I always felt so silly. I mean what’s the point, really? Do I really need the “trhrill”?

2. …performed (in any area of the arts) onstage?
I was in school plays in middle school and I performed in a piano tournament when I was 8 (I came in 3rd). Do those count?

3. …planted a garden?
Not really, even though my mother is a gardening-addict. The best I’ve done is kept a mini-rose alive for 3 years now.

4. …ever had to reformat your hard drive due to a virus/spyware?
Yup. In 92 or so. Didn’t fix the problem though…. That darn little white ball still bounced accross my screen.

5. …written a book? A poem? A song?
A book? No. Though I’ve often wanted to.
A poem? Not really. And the ones that pretended have slid into the dark abyss of forgetfulness so they don’t count!
A song. Yes, actually. Though not many are left. I think there’s only one itty bitty mod-file floating around some Zip-disk somewhere over here…

6. …sang karaoke?
Sort of. And only in the privacy of my car :-)

7. …been interviewed by a local tv station/newspaper?
No. Though my picture was in a regional French newspaper when our high-school class did a trip to Canada.

8. …witnessed a tornado/earthquake/hurricane first-hand?
2 Earthquakes. Both reportedly 4s. But I slept through both of them and don’t remember a single thing about them.

9. …participated in a photo scavenger hunt?
No. But them I’m unsure what that means ;-)

10. …traveled to another country?
Yes. Exculding west-european countries (after all one does visit a total of 3 when one goes to college in Germany and one’s parents live in France): Tanzania and the island of Zanzibar, Venezuela, Canada, a night in Egypt.

I”m not the only one!!

So now we now know that self-pity, fear and other self-destructive behaviours can become very easily a comfort zone; to the point of it being hard not to use something that is completely imaginary as reality and keep oneself in a constant state of emotional turmoil.

I do it all the time!

But not only that…

OTHERS DO IT TOO!!!

Kinda relieving and encouraging to stop…

So long ago…

…oh my goodness has it been a long time since I’ve written something! But then, I had been slacking in a lot of areas this past month, well… especially the last few weeks. Actually the last 4 weeks have been the definition of a wave: a high, a slope down, a steeper slope down and then it bottoms out… That’s where I felt like I was today anyhow. Which makes me unspeakably glad not to have to go to work tonight but instead got to see someone of whom I can honestly say “I wanna be like him when I grow up!”

Nothing like a good night out to pick you up again :-)

So I’d like to say that a lot has happened since the last time I wrote. And in a way there has. However mostly, nothing has happened. I doubt that those 4-6 weeks however long it has been wil be remembered in 5 years as “Oh, yes, that’s when this and this happened”…

And what’s with this keyboard not working anymore all the sudden…. Hmm… now it does work again. Weird. Like some random temporary intereference… Shouldn’t have gone wireless…

Blah…

Off to bed… this is too frustrating…
