What a day…

Tuesday, February 28th, 2006

So it would appear that today was the first time that a DOS attack on one of our sites was actually successful; someone (who looking through some Danish blogs and somewhat confirmed by a trace on the offending IP) known as a Saudi-Arabian hacker group. Though it looks like someone in Germany either helped them or attempted a second DOS around the same time if not just later. Sadly for the both of them, they didn’t calculate the time right as they performed the DOS around 11am our time which would be when Roo was working on the DK so we noticed the problem within less than half-an hour and they didn’t have time to gain access to the entire server or to do more damage than they did (deface the front page and plant two trojans) before the passwords were changed and the files removed.

Unfortunately for us, the software upgrade which followed us fixing the site caused us having to rewrite part of the templates due to a WordPress change between 1.5 and 2.0.

Ah well. It was an adventure.

The sad thing is though there was no gain for them in the affair except a very short-lived glory. It’s so hard to understand why some people would write such a message though… I guess it’s because the loudest voices are always the troublemakers when it comes to poltics. But why hack a fansite of all things!

*gulp*

I can’t believe it… The WP page on poohbear loaded. And I didn’t change anything. What in the world????

Anyway. Let’s see if this really works or if it only looks like it by posting a “cute” moment as Ruth put it…

Sign you’ve lived in Texas too long:

You listen to “Ride Forever” and while Paul gross signs

“So I say to all you old men: Don’t let yourselves get broke! If you think this world’s gone crazy and they’re scratching at yer throat, it’s time to dust of that ole saddle, get it on a horse, pick up the spurs… We’re gonna run like stink…We’re going to tear across the east-blue Alberta skies”

…you think to yourself… there’s something wrong with that last part. “Alberta?” That just doesn’t sound grand enough to be entitled to a be sung by a full men’s choir in a song that likes to jerk a tear from the corner of an eye. I’m sure it was supposed to have been “Texas skies”. Then it would have made sense. But “Alberta”? Sissies…

Though what’s with Vanilla Ice playing on this CD?

Since Roo insisted…

The following is a summary of a very humbling event which occured on Feb 16th around 1pm…

So…

So as I walk to the car to check, my mind wanders at what I did this morning: I may have lost them in the auditorium during the meeting… Oh wait. When I was in the meeting and stuffed the chocolate which was given to me in my pocket since I had nowhere to put it, they were still there, weren’t they? Which means… I threw them in the trash with the melted, sticky mess!?!

Sure enough, they aren’t in or near the car from what I can see. So back upstairs, I peek in the trash bin through the lid and… oh good. My pink candy wrappers are still there. And what is that next to them… my Kroger-card. After retrieving my yucky-sticky keys and cleansing them, I am saved!!

Sign you’re having a weird day: you actually threw your keys away.

It sucks that poohbear and TI don’t get along or I would’ve posted this the day it happened…
