Simply speechless…

Friday, October 27th, 2006

So here I am, peacefully working from home listening to the UK Singles Top 40 from Oct 22nd of this year. In no particular order… when #27 comes on *shivers*…

“Jump in my car” sung by… David Hasselhoff…

The French were right, the Brits are special ;-)
(anyone who would be reading this excluded, of course! Well, they are special too but in a completely different way!)

momentary silliness

Thursday, October 12th, 2006

So I was peacefully sitting here working away from home… when all the sudden some very familiar chords came out of my laptop’s speakers. Those were soon followed by Prince announcing that “All that Glitters Ain’t Gold”.

Kinda spooky: winamp isn’t running, nor was media player, nor was anything else that could in good conscience play any music whatsoever…

In fact, that song isn’t even on the computer! And it’s connected to a VPN at work so there’s no way it could access the internet at large or any other PC here at home…

And then it dawns on me… I have a remote desktop session open with my work PC at work. And well, I must have hit play because Winamp is definately running on that one, happily playing away. And yes, that song would’ve been on that CD too.

Now I feel silly, all thanks to the remote desktop tool… *lol*

Peaceful :-)

So Liam and Cora are both asleep in the living room: Cora in her swing and Liam on the floor. *lol* And they both have been for about 3 hours!

Life is good :-)

Procrastination….

Hmmm… it still my #1 challenge it would seem…

Look at that inbox, the black one on my desk. The one you can’t really see because it has started to regurgitate what I try to feed the beast.

Look at my inboxes in Thunderbird… Web.de: 79 mails, 39 unread (no spam, most of them bills or reciepts), emonsters.org: 40 mails, 5 unread (5 reciepts, everything else from friends and family), hotmail.com no mails YEAH! Oh wait… that one isn’t used for anything at all. Darn it.

And then there’s my desk… papers, more papers, DVDs, more DVDs, books, an old walkman, a ZIP drive… I should take pics… Maybe I’ll get it cleaned up again and I’ll definately need to hang that picture up. As a reminder “This is what this should look like when you leave the room”…

Better get started on those mails before someone decides to write me!

People…

People are such amazing creatures…. A few days ago I was priviledged to witness how one of our support teams tracks performance and addresses issues. A particular member of this team came up as having attendance issues that were hard to prove (i.e. they have a nice doctor who is fast to write notes to excuse absences). In other words the attendance and the performance wasn’t up to par for this particular individual.

Well, that same person talked to me today about this and that and mentionned that they are rated extremely high for job performance, specifically speed and efficiency.

Uhm… I was nice and acknowledged it with an “uh-huh” even though that person’s boss told me pretty much the exact opposite.

Though I still wonder how someone with that bad a track record (’cause this has been going on for at least 2 years now), the medical bills they must be having and the trips they brag about having taken this year, can afford to be driving a brand new Ram 1500.

I guess it’s a prime example of something that I find myself guilty of quite often: self-justification.

A quiet work-week

Saturday, October 7th, 2006

All in all, this work week has been pretty quiet. Unfortunately it has also been pretty dull.

Did anything memorable happen?
Not really. Not yet.

But who knows, there are 3 hours left in this work week ;-)

I’m in love!

There is a brand new, blue Porsche 911 Turbo outside this building.

I want one.

My preciousssssss…..

When a man’s jaw bone drops, it’s time to reassess the situation…

Yup. The trusty old judge from The Frighteners said it all.

Feeling dreadfully ininspired to jolt down anything that happened this weekend, I thought I’d glance over some journal entries from last October (as in 2005). That was interesting actually. It seems the incredible busy-ness started a year ago when we moved. That’s scary. Like Roo says “It never really fell back into place”. And with one more family member now, it got even worse: all the sudden days that used to have 24 hours only have 12 of them. And sometimes only 8! It’s quite disconcerting really.

There are more of us. We all work more hours now than we have before. We all have more activities than we ever had in our lives… Between my job, Gillian starting school, exercise programs, checking my parents’ house, cleaning Ruth’s parents house… and on and on it goes.

We really need to get better at planning things and actually communicating our plan to one another. We might actually get more done and enjoy ourselves on the way!

This said there are a few little things that make life quite delicious these days. Liam for example, though being author of the greatest tantrums if he feels misunderstood, has mostly been absolutely adorable: lots of smiles and he’s gotten to say please most of the time and “thank you Mommy”, “thank you Papa” or “thank you Gillian”. It’s so precious.

And Gillian wanting to help. Asking quite interesting questions and making the cutest statements like “I sssink I had an adzigent”. And of course she’s very generous with hugs, kisses, I love you’s, etc… Man, she so has me wrapped around her finger!

And Cora is trying to keep up too. She likes to sit up now. She’s so attentive to her surroundings. She also smiles very easily. And sometimes even giggles. It’s precious.

Shower calls… gotta go…
