Parenting story…

Tuesday, May 1st, 2007

Yesterday evening, as Ruth and I were both in the office, a pittyful cry came to us. At first, we thought it was Cora. But it turned out to be Liam who, albeit miserable sounding, being easily soothed.
Poor thing… Anyway, so at some point during the night, he came to our bed and cuddled up next to me. That was all fine and well. Until… Until he started wriggling next to me and scooting to where my knees were. So I decided it was time for our little monkey to be sent back to his bed.

Upon lifting the covers though, I was greeter by Gillian’s bright smile. All the wriggling was her squeezing in between Liam and me.

It was one of those moments where I’m glad Ruth insists on a King-size bed…

So I pick Gillian up and move her back to her bed. She says “I want my puppy”. I ask where it is. She says “In YOUR room”. So off I go to get Liam and move him to his bed. Then I go back to our bedroom again to search for lost stuffed friends. I find Monkey, but no Puppy. I give Liam the Monkey and ask Gillian if she’s sure Puppy’s in my room. She says yes.

So I go back. No luck. Turn on the light. No luck. Check the office… no puppy. Check the hallway, the kids’ room, the living room, both bathrooms… still no puppy.

I go back to Gillian and… she’s cuddling puppy.

I feel cheated.

It used to be easy to put them back into bed…
